Okay, here is what has been going on for the last few days:
Saturday, mom and I didn't do too much of anything, I was really sore from the surfing, and we both were a little spaced out!!
Sunday, mom and I hit up this very cool place... the Moku'ae'ae Island Bird Sanctuary. It is by the Kilauea Lighthouse, which is at the northernmost point of the main Hawaiian Islands.
Where we saw these fantastic huge birds called Great Frigate birds, who have a wing span of 7 feet. We learned that the only way they eat is by stealing food from the more adept birds who can dive and fish. This is your educational moment, the Great Frigate birds produce less oil in their wings than any other bird, so if they hit the water, they can't fly and they drown
Katie arrived on Sunday late evening, and was obviously too pooped to pop, after her 16 hour travel day. Alas, Monday was a little bit of a write-off for her as well, because she was adjusting to the time change and jet-lag crap. But, we did groceries and drank wine and hung out and just relaxed, which I am sure was much needed for her!!!
Tuesday, yesterday, was fun! Katie & I got up early and ran 3km, down the beachfront path, it was lovely. Then, yesterday afternoon, we hit up Ke'e Beach, which falls right at the tip of the Na'Pali Coast. This beach was the perfect blend of sand and shady spots (always a good thing in my books), and it is written up as the best beach for snorkeling. I think the reason for this is that it is in a little bit of a cove, so the big waves stay out beyond the reef! Katie got some good underwater shots (she says), so as soon as I have some, I will post them!
Tuesday evening, I went to Weight Watchers, and I stayed exactly the same. Again, I will take it. I am happy to not be gaining on this holiday, and I attribute that to having some sort of control over what I am eating because I am cooking my own breakfasts and dinners!!! With that said, we didn't feel like cooking after our long day, so we hit up 'the Best Pizza on the Island'. It was quite good, actually, fairly thin crust, but it was whole wheat crust!!!

Which brings us right to today!!! This morning, Katie & I got up and biked, uphill (which we didn't know until we were on the bikes) 4 km to this hiking path that leads to these secret waterfalls. They are called the Ho'opi'i falls. Apparently no one, except the locals, knew about them until the authors of our guidebook wrote about them and told people how to get there. It was stunning. And then we biked the 4 km home... eep.
Katie with her 'spider stick' (a stick that is used to destroy whatever web is in the path ahead!!):
Me, on the very cool trail in to the falls:
Me, at the very tippy top of the falls:
This afternoon, we hit the Coconut Marketplace... which I am sure at some point used to be booming with fun shoppies, but is now mostly run-down and closed, and most of the shoppies sell the same touristy stuff... however, it is the only place on the island of Kauai that has the Dole Pineapple Whip, which is a dairy-free (yay Katie) frozen delight that mom and I discovered on our last trip to Hawai'i!!! Then, I bought a ukulele. Because I have wanted one since our last trip here, and because I think it might be fun to add a cute ukulele element to our 2Divine show that is upcoming this summer.
Katie just got back from the beach and said that she wants all of you to know that she saw 4 sea turtles who all popped up their heads from playing to say 'hello'... She got pics, so when they are uploaded, I will share them with you!!!
So there you have it! Stay tuned for our trip up to Waimea Canyon (Hawaii's version of the Grand Canyon)... We are thinking of tomorrow or the next day!!!
Also, stay tuned for our journey to the Tattoo studio... I will be bringing my video camera!!!
