Waimea...

Today was a very long but very good day! Today, we hit Waimea Canyon!!!

The drive from Kapa'a is a little bit of a journey along the south shore, through Lihu'e past Koloa and Po'ipu, past Hanapepe, all the way up the main road to the twisty turny, nausea inducing, highway 550 up to the Waimea Canyon. The Canyon itself is 1 mile wide, 10 miles long, and more than 36oo feet deep. The tippy top is a 4000 foot elevation, and my ears were popping all the way up. We stopped at mile marker 10 (of 18) for a lookout picture stop, a quick bathroom break and a little bite to eat!
Mom & Katie:

So then we hit the windy, seriously unpaved-ish, potholed road up to the tippy top, just past mile marker 18 which is called the Pu'u O Kila Lookout. Needless to say that all of my pics are not going to do this site justice. This canyon is stunning. Green, and lush, the view is spectacular. Katie and I took a hike along a trail to see even better views, and of course, I brought my video camera!!!

Funny shit. As another aside, there was a restaurant at mile marker 15, that advertised cocktails. Please, have a cocktail and then attempt these seriously stressful twisty roads.

There you have it. A very full day!!!
